Imagine being unable to hear your favourite song, your loved ones’ voices, or even the sounds of nature. However, the differences that this culture of people faces today are far greater than their own limitations. Allowing oneself to walk in others’ shoes allows us to understand what they are going through.
As the old proverb says,
“Signs are to eyes what words are to ears.”
In honour of Deaf Awareness Week and the International Day of Sign Languages, the Leo Club of District 306 C2 University of Sri Jayewardenepura, in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Federation of Deaf, Deaf Women Association and MyRight Sri Lanka organization has launched a new project called “Let Our Hands Talk” to show our support for deaf culture. With the slogan “Towards a Flourished Deaf Community” we ready to embark this journey to raise awareness about the deaf to end our differences and accept the true diversity of the world.
